This project involves the renovation of an existing old house from the 1930’s and a new structure perpendicular to it which configure an ‘L’ shape volume embracing the gardens and its mature oak trees that filter the light and shade the house.

The Owl House shines with simplicity: an elevated concrete deck and concrete trellis run along the side of the garden mutually providing shelter while becoming an extension of the gardens and the pool. This first level hosts a family room, a small courtyard and stair hall, and the dining and kitchen service areas. Upstairs, two bedrooms sit on the trellis overlooking the garden as if they were two tree houses in between the canopies. The single story old house was stripped from poor additions and now opens up to the garden hosting the formal living room, study and guest room. Natural light filtered through the oak trees flows deeply into the house. For the bedrooms on the second level, an operable shutter system filters further the light. The bedrooms resemble wood cabana tree houses, and enjoy the views to the garden and the surrounding treetops.
